Thought   for  Today

“Christ  himself came down and took possession of me …. I had never foreseen the possibility of that, of a real contact, person to person, here below, between a human being and God … in  this sudden possession of me by Christ  neither my sense nor my imagination had any part: I only felt in the midst of my suffering the presence of a love.”

Simone Weil [1909-1943],
Waiting on God

FISHING

We walk out of our house every morning
with our fishing rod – hoping to catch a
“Hello” or “Nice blouse” or "Any fish?”

Our house, our car, our job, our salary,
our titles, all hooks, lures for recognition,
or notice, or A’s on our report card...

I once thought God wanted the same thing.
Nope! I don’t know what God wants other
than we fish for one another with love.

THEY ARE RIGHT THERE

The shapes that surround us ….
Did you ever notice how interesting they are?

They are ….

Straight,  crooked, bent, broken,
round, twisting, up, down, different ….

They are ….

The round of the sun in the morning ocean
and the fluorescent slices  of the moon at night.

They are ….

A baby face in a blanket, a teenage acne face,
a scared stock market broker, a wrinkled widow ….

They are ….

Coconuts, cashews, strawberries, potatoes,
chocolates, pies, cakes, pizza, loaves of bread ….

They are ….

Words that come at us in the course of a day:
compliments, curses, Hello’s and Goodbye’s ….

They are ….

SAYING  SOMETHING

Sometimes someone says something but
I kept walking – not to dis the talker – but
to walk to where I was in a hurry to get to.

But every time I stopped and went back
and said, “Wait a minute! What did you
just say?” it was well worth the going back.

Sometimes I surprise them and they say,
“What?” – but sometimes they say
something that changes everything.
