INAUGURATION COATS

 
Yellow, plum, green and blue,
distinctive colors all the way through.
Women? Might as well make the most
of Inauguration Day – on a cold
January noon. Men? They only
have ties to make a fashion splash
that ends up only as a belly flop.

THE PLEASURE OF OBSERVATION

 

As Fran Lebowwitz puts it,
it’s all about “the pleasure of
observation”. Get that and
you’ll understand the smile
on a grandparent’s face at
a violin recital or a wife’s
face as her husband dances
with their daughter at her
wedding – or a kid licking
her ice cream cone – being
the only person on the planet
for 3 full pleasurable moments,
around and around and around
on the merry-go-round called life.

Cling is how we begin ….

SOME  PEOPLE

 

Some people get described as things:
vacuums, needles, hammers, labels ….
 
Some people get described as animals:
gorilla, weasels, the elephant in the room….
 
Some people get described as motions:
stretch, reach, itch, rubs it in ….  
 
Some people are hard to describe:
blank, speechless, sneaky, shadows ….
 
Some people are described as insects:
mosquitos,  fleas, wasps, flies on the wall ….
 
Some people are described as places:
mountain, ocean,  heaven and hell ….

CONVERSATIONS

I like him because he listens.

I like her because she’s clear.
I like her because she asks questions.
I like him because he refers back
        to some thing that I said.

I like him because he says, “For example"

        and then gives a good example.

I like her because she asks me

        to speak up when I’m quiet 

I don’t like him because he hogs

        the conversation.

I like him because he doesn’t have

        to top everyone who speaks.

I like her because she doesn’t look

        at her watch when I speak.

I like him because he enjoys a
