BIBLE  BINGO

When prayer is boring
and prayer is hard,
I like to play Bible Bingo.

Just open the Bible ….
Just  point your finger
to the text on any page.

I’m the Good Thief and the Bad…
I’m David and Goliath….
I’m Martha and I’m Mary ….

I’m in the Garden and I'm in the desert .…
I’m in the valley and I’m on the mountain ….
And I’m on an Exodus and in the in between ….

I’m rising and I’m dying ….
I’m eating and I’m feeding the hungry …
I’m at the Last Supper longing for the big banquet….

Thought for today:

“Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

IT’S THE WINK
THAT ALWAYS  WINS

Our eyes show us the wonders
of the world all around us.

Our eyes show us the words
and the pictures in the newspapers.

Our eyes show us the faces
of those all around us.

Our eyes show us another’s eyes,
but it’s the wink that always wins us.

Thought for today:

ALL  OF  US  IN  THIS  CHURCH

All of us in this church are beggars:
begging for bread – the best bread possible;
begging for wine – the best wine possible;
begging for water – to wash away our regrets;
begging for words – that will give us insights;
begging for others – that we understand each other;
begging for leaders – who will make us leaders;
begging for beggars – all of us in this room.

 Thought for today:

“Why compare  yourself with others? No one in the entire  world can do a better job of being you than you.”

GALWAY  BAY

I wasn’t as lucky as my parents –
lucky enough to be born on Galway Bay.
My mom said it was poor and rocky –
or as she put it, “Ireland has nothing”.
So she came to Boston and my dad came
to Boston, Portland, Maine, Philadelphia,
New York City, Hell’s Kitchen – finally
marrying my mom  and  settling in
Brooklyn – above the Narrows – the water
way that could lead you back to Ireland.

I was lucky enough to hear about
Galway Bay from Bing Crosby and
Johnny Cash and so many other singers -
and I was lucky enough to finally visit
the green earth and the turf and the stone
houses where they came from – and to
discover Ireland had everything - God
and especially people like my parents –
and my relatives  in that heaven –
“in that dear land across the Irish sea.”
