I don’t know what's the hope
of every person. Is it to be holy?
To be happy, yes, but to be
holy, I my doubts about that.
Even to be a success, not so
sure about that one as well.
So what do we really want
down deep in our belly?
A good meal – hot in winter and
mashed potatoes – with good gravy.
Laughter, seeing cousins playing,
and seeing a drinker not drunk.
A wedding, a baptism, Thanksgiving
afternoon and Christmas morning.
Caring for a sick dad or dropping
into seeing a senile single old aunt.
The first day of vacation, a graduation,
fishing, playing miniature golf, the ocean ….
Popcorn at a good movie, a hot dog at
a picnic, ice cream on a summer’s night.
Come to think about it, maybe we all want
to be holy, whole, enjoying the whole shebang.
