AT THE OCEAN’S EDGE

I’m now living here on the edge of the
Atlantic Ocean in Long Branch, N.J. –
Within earshot of 10,000 incoming waves.

Did you ever wonder what people are
wondering about when they too are
looking out to sea at the edge of the ocean?

Lately I’m thinking about what my mom was
thinking about as she stood there on the
other side of the Atlantic as a young woman.

Years after she died I finally got to see where
she came from in Ireland right on the edge of
the grey water Bay that led out into the Atlantic.

She wasn’t exaggerating – when she told
us,  “As a kid I could open up our back
door and stick my big toe in Galway Bay.”
