INAUGURATION COATS

Yellow, plum, green and blue,
distinctive colors all the way through.
Women? Might as well make the most
of Inauguration Day – on a cold
January noon. Men? They only
have ties to make a fashion splash
that ends up only as a belly flop.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

In many a book, either
in the front or the back,
we find acknowledgments.

If we take the time to think a bit
about our life we’ll come up with
a list of people to thank.

Or as Groucho Marx once put it,
“If our parents didn’t have any kids,
chances are, we won’t either.”

Thought for the Day

“If your day is hemmed in prayer, it is less likely to unravel.”

THE PLEASURE OF OBSERVATION

As Fran Lebowwitz puts it,
it’s all about “the pleasure of
observation”. Get that and
you’ll understand the smile
on a grandparent’s face at
a violin recital or a wife’s
face as her husband dances
with their daughter at her
wedding – or a kid licking
her ice cream cone – being
the only person on the planet
for 3 full pleasurable moments,
around and around and around
on the merry-go-round called life.

ATTACHMENT

Cling is how we begin ….
Hanging onto whomever
will hold us – but we
prefer mama and dada –
grandma and grandpa –
holding on like wallpaper –
duct tape – crazy glue –
whatever works – but
then there are the years
we want freedom – sing
it loud and sing it clear –
freedom then the cycle
begins all over again and
again – without an Amen.
