SILENCE 

The space after a comment -
sometimes it lingers for a second –
sometimes for the whole day or life.
 
It could be a compliment or
it could be a hurt – that rubs
us like a rasp or # 10 sandpaper.
 
The intent – now that is the question -
or the rub as Shakespeare puts it –
the why he or she said what they said.
 
The big silence is when we don’t talk 
to each other about what happened and
end up never really knowing what happened.
