RUN SILENT,
RUN DEEP

June 9,  2012  Quote for Today

"The deepest rivers flow with the least noise."

Curt

The picture on top -  taken one evening  in 2008 -  is of the Foyle River in the city of Derry in Northern Ireland.

Questions:

Has it been your experience that the deepest persons are the quietest persons?

What is depth?

Is silence part of depth psychology and depth spirituality?

When was the last time you read Langston Hughes poem: Rivers

Rivers knew God before He was bearded.
And sometimes rivers need to be fearded.
But most of the rivers are our friend.
They are usually there to lend
A helpful hand to lighten the load.
A river is a lot like a road.
Some rivers come and go;
Most depend on rain from space.
Some friends come and go;
Some people call rain a grace.
Rivers can’t always go where they wanta;
Sometimes they just go where they gotta.
Stopping up a river can make it sickly.
So it’s best to let rivers flow, partickly
Since rivers can be insistent, having cut through time.
Gathering all together tiny secret drops of rain,
They may not tell their secrets, though they surely may mime
Ancient pictures of worship that that help in times of pain.
