EDGY OR SMOOTH

Why do some rocks
have a rough edge?

Why are some stones
round and smooth?

We can also ask the same
questions of wood and metal.

Come to think about it, we can
ask the same question of words.

We need to pause and look at
our words before we throw them.

We need to hear Jesus’ words, “Let
the one without sin cast the first stone."

Better: the word made flesh
needs to dwell within us.

If we treat and see each other with love,
isn’t that how our words become smooth?

GO  FIGURE

At some point we have to see
there are  STOP signs along
the roads of life.  They mean
just that.  STOP.  They mean
we need to go figure out how
we got to where we got so far.

What have we learned? What
is our wisdom? What have been
our words? What have been
our choices? Slow down! STOP!
We can see the consequences
of our choices and behavior.

Life is not fair. Who said it was?
Things happened because they did.
What happened, happened because
it did. We need to realize that.
We need to STOP lying and ask,
“What do I want my legacy to be?”

“Go figure” is a great wisdom saying.
It can mean we can take the time to
figure out what has happened to me
so far – hurts and mistakes – good
choices, bad choices – and who has
walked with me in my life so far?

“To expect life to be tailored to our specifications is to invite frustration.”

SQUIRREL

Sometimes I feel like a squirrel.
on a city street – as a car comes
right at me -  not knowing whether
to go backwards or rush forwards –
which way? – frozen in the middle.
I don’t want to kill the poor little guy.
I don’t want to drive down this
street tomorrow and see a dead
squirrel in the middle of the street.
I hit the brake a bit and I think he
or she made it on their way. I hope
this helps me keep the covenant of
creation going. So why do I swat
flies, kill mosquitos and go “oooh!”
when I see snakes or wasps?
