BABY  BLOCKS

Letters first – the alphabet –
wooden blocks. I slowly got
to know them – A – B – C -
then the rest of the letters -
all the way to Z. Words next….
Then sentences: The dog is brown.

Slowly you read to me.
Slowly I speak to you – word
by word.  Hopefully God gets
in the mix.  Hopefully Christ
for Christians gets into the picture.
Then the more – a lot more.

THE  FEEL  OF?

For starters, there is the feel
of water – cold and hot – and
the feel of wind on a winter day –
rain in the spring or summer -
but more important the feel of
anger and being made fun of –
but most important – what we
really need is the feel of forgiveness.

 Thought for the Day

“We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the Beautiful Stuff out.”

CARPENTER

When Jesus was a carpenter,
when he was making chairs
and tables, doors and floors,
was he working on his parables,
was he nailing together his words?

When Jesus was a preacher,
when he was fishing with his words,
was he missing his carpenter days –
when he never heard yawns and
questions, challenges and rejections?

THE  REMOTE

The kid took the remote -
and aimed it right at me.
It didn’t shut me off.
He was surprised because
it worked every time
with the TV. It went off
when he wanted it off.
But it wasn’t able to
shut me off. I looked
him right in the eye.
He tossed the remote
on the floor and ran
into his bedroom
and slammed it shut.
To be very honest –
this experience scared
this little old me.
