R

Regrets. resentments:
“rrrr” as in “grrrrrr!” -
and these are the ones
that really hurt.

Returns, re-looks,
reconciliations,
and these are the ones
that actually happen.

ROCKS

Rocks, stones, sidewalks,
trees, iron and wooden fences,
get to stay out all day and all night –
and feel and deal with the weather
without umbrellas and sweaters –
but still – I know they last longer –
but still  - I love an old blanket and
a comfy couch and  a good laugh
with you and a singing radiator
on a cold winter’s night.

“Envy  is  a  symptom  of lack of appreciation of our own uniqueness and self  worth.  Each of us has something to give that no one else has.”

MY   FATHER

Three blankets away
at the beach I heard
a 22 year older said, “My father ….”

On the bus about
four rows ahead of me
I heard a red head said, “My father ….”

On a late night TV talk  show
I heard a guest talking
and she said, “My father ….”

Each time I listened ….
because my dad was too quiet
and died too soon.

Thought  for  Today

“Baseball’s unique possession is the fan’s memory of the times his daddy took him to see the great players of his youth. The excitement of those hours, the step they represented in his growth and the part those afternoons—even one afternoon—played in his relationship with his father are bound up in his feeling toward the game. When he takes his own son to the game, as his father once took him, there is a spanning of the generations that is warm and rich and—if I may use the word—lovely.”

Bill Veeck in
The Hustler’s Handbook
(Putnam) in Reader’s Digest,
 August 1993, p. 145.

For me it was 1947 - 1950 and
Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges,
Duke Snyder, Don Newcombe etc.
with my dad.
I don't know who the guy is
in this video.
