ANIMAL  HOUSE  PRAYER

Lord, give me horse sense.
The loyalty of a dog.
The silent presence of a cat.
The singing ability of a bird.
The strength of a lion.
The memory of an elephant.
The persistence of a mosquito.
The swimability of a porpoise.
The friskiness of a monkey.
And the I give a hoot of an owl.

Thought for Today

Bumper Sticker:  “The more I learn about women, the more I like my truck.”

Wooooo!
What happened
to whoever said this?

THE  SECRET  OF  LIFE

If asked what is the secret of life,
what would I answer?

Would my answer be different  at 40
than what I would come up with at 80?

Would I have 2 or 3 or 5 answers -
figurings I’m trying to figure out?

What is the secret of life?

James Taylor, the singer,  says to enjoy the ride.
Rich Rohr, the spiritual writer,  says to give God the nod.

I’m still sticking with Galatians 6:2: “Bear one another’s
burdens and in that way you’ll fulfill the Law of Christ.”

“Any old woman can love God better than a doctor of theology can.”

Saint Bonaventure

Maybe Bonaventure, maybe.

A   METAPHOR  OF  LIFE

What would I  do,  if God said, “Life is just
a bubble – and in a few seconds it will burst!”

I don’t know what I would say, if that was it.
I think I would say, “God. I need a few years.”

I probably would add, “In a second what could
I see? The sky …. The sea…. A running dog….

Before I die I want to see mountains …
long white fences surrounding green fields….

I want to see dolphins, love, children,
the consecration at a Holy Mass.

I want to see Christ with children, friends, enemies,
the healed and the disciples on Easter morn….

Then Christ, hearing that  screamed from Pole to Pole,
“Okay! Get moving. And don’t come home empty.”

ADD  ON’S

What is it about us human beings that
we come up with all these add on’s?

We do it in prayers – thinking more is
better.  Do they drive God crazy?

Or take windows.  They get flower pots
and curtains and decals and light catchers.

I guess it’s human nature. People add on
tattoos, rings, jewelry, pins, medals, chains.

People complain about preachers who seem
to be unable to end the sermon. “One more….”

Ooops! Better end this right here!
