SEPARATIONS

 

We are not God.

There are separations.

Suddenly we see birds

in the air – splitting – and

going off in different directions.

Or we remember the day

we lost another – like two birds

on a branch – one flies away

and the other remains -

and we don’t know why?

EVERYBODY IS MOVING

 

Everyone is moving

away or towards each other.

Distance matters.

Fairness matters.

Thinking of the other matters.

Talking to the other matters.

Fields and fences matter.

But sometimes we forget

and it doesn’t matter to one

but it does to the other – and

that matters – sometimes

that really matters.

 THE WORST HURT

 

There are hurts that really hurt -

but some hurts are worse than others.

The worst of course have to do with others:

going far away – but what helps the most

are returns, letters, calls, and walking -

walking through the fields of remembrance.

And don’t forget the presence of others.
